Herbert J. Downing, Esq. is a shareholder in Kolvoord Overton & Wilson, P.C. He is licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Vermont and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Herb has a general litigation practice specializing in the representation of building contractors and suppliers to the construction trades. He also maintains an extensive commercial practice representing financial institutions in foreclosures and collection matters.
Herb is the firm’s specialist in landlord/tenant law and has over 30 years experience in residential and commercial real estate matters.
From 2003 to 2016 Herb served on the Character & Fitness Committee of the Vermont Supreme Court. He has resided in Colchester since 1987. He served on the Colchester Development Review Board from 2003 to 2011. He served as chairman of the Colchester DRB from 2004 to 2009. He has served on the Colchester Selectboard since 2011. He currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Selectboard.
Herb is an active member of and past president of the Colchester Lions Club and a member of the Malletts Bay Congregational Church.
Herb also serves as an Acting Judge hearing small claims cases in Chittenden County.
He is a member of the Vermont and Chittenden County Bar Associations.
