The History of Our Firm

Alan D. Overton, Esq. serving in the U.S. Air Force Judge Advocate Corps

The firm can trace its origins back to 1958 when founding partner, Philip A. Kolvoord, Esq. opened his practice in Essex Junction, Vermont.

Phil served as the managing partner of the firm until his retirement in 1991.   Alan D. Overton, Esq. joined the firm in 1966.  He was a partner for 44 years and actively practiced law with the firm until his passing in 2012.  Gregg H. Wilson, Esq. associated with the firm in 1968 and was a partner in the firm until his retirement in 2014.

Longtime associates, Herbert J. Downing, Esq. and Jason F. Ruwet, Esq. were both welcomed as directors and shareholders of the firm in 2007 and co-manage the day-to-day operations of the firm to this day.

Having worked with Kolvoord, Overton & Wilson as a registered law clerk since 2002, Nancy M. Geise, Esq. became an attorney with the firm shortly after being admitted to the Vermont Bar in 2007.

Although Phil and Al are no longer with us and Gregg is happily retired in North Carolina, the firm still bears the names of these three attorneys as a tribute to the years of dedicated legal service they provided to Vermonters.
